Group Guidelines

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us to maintain the safety of our visitors and the art. Please review the Visitor Guidelines and Ticketing and Admission Policies prior to your visit.

By visiting the Museum with a group, you agree to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • All visitors and Members must pass through a security check. Please anticipate lines at the entrances.
  • Advance reservations are required for all adult and student groups of 10 or more, and for any third-party guided tours, regardless of size.
  • To request a reservation, you must complete the Group Visit Request Form in advance and account for all attendees in your group.
  • All visitors in your group must be present when you check in and must have a valid group admission ticket to enter the galleries.
  • Membership and other discounts do not apply to group admission.
  • All payments are final. Credits and refunds will not be issued for overpayments or cancellations.
  • Tickets may not be refunded, resold, exchanged, or transferred.
  • All individuals who lecture in the galleries must have a Museum-issued lecture badge. A lecture badge is only available to groups that make a reservation in advance.
  • Unauthorized lecturers will be asked to end their tour immediately.
  • Please yield to Museum-led tours and programs. Museum staff lecturing in the galleries have priority.
  • Lecturing is not permitted in special exhibitions.
  • Do not block entrances or corridors. Be mindful of other visitors when leading your group through the galleries.
  • Groups cannot join public Museum guided tours. Visitor Experience can arrange private guided tours with advance notice.
  • Groups arriving more than thirty minutes after the scheduled start of their guided visit will forfeit their tour.
  • The Museum cannot guarantee access to all galleries at all times. For up-to-date gallery information at The Met Fifth Avenue, see Gallery Closures.
  • All groups must adhere to the Museum’s Institutional Diversity, Inclusion, and Equal Access Policy Statement and all group tours should be conducted in a manner that aligns with this policy. The principles of diversity, inclusion, and equal access apply to all aspects of The Met’s operations, across all categories of individuals. Individuals should be able to share in the Museum experience, free from biased or demeaning conduct or statements based on their personal characteristics.
  • Verbally abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or threatening statements or behavior toward Met staff or other visitors is prohibited.
  • Security officers and staff are there to help. Please follow their instructions.

The Museum reserves the right to refuse or revoke the admission of any group, lecturer, or group member whose conduct violates these guidelines.
