Shattered Mirror, Shattered Music

Reza Derakhshani Iranian

Not on view

This composition uses the language of traditional miniature painting to depict a bazm gone awry. It is a fragmented representation of an ancient princely pursuit that symbolized the stability and well-being of a ruler and his domain. Here the musicians are distorted and the instruments are broken and scattered. The composition implies shattered dreams and disillusionment with the ongoing deterioration of long-standing ideals.
