Lázaro Cárdenas was president of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. His administration was the most progressive phase of the revolution, and his popularity approached that of heroes Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa. This print shows him on a balcony addressing his many union supporters. Cárdenas is known for his brilliant political instincts, a genuine commitment to social reform, and the ability to relate to people from all backgrounds. His most notable reforms concerned land, labor, the oil industry, and education, through which he transformed symbolic aspirations of the revolution into action.
