Fukami Sueharu Japanese
The Kyoto-based ceramic artist Fukami employed an innovative, high-pressure slip-casting technique (designed to prevent warping) to form the porcelain body of this towering sculpture, onto which he then applied a classic pale-blue glaze (Japanese: seihakuji; Chinese: qingbai). The distinctive glaze recalls luminescent Song-dynasty (960–1279) celadon wares produced in the Jingdezhen kilns of China in the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
