WILLIAM RUDIN AND ANDREW SAUL ELECTED TRUSTEES, DIANE BURKE ELECTED HONORARY TRUSTEE OF

(September 24, 1999) – William C. Rudin and Andrew M. Saul have been elected Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Diane W. Burke an Honorary Trustee of the Museum, it was announced recently by James R. Houghton, Chairman of the Board of the Metropolitan. The elections took place at the September 14 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Mr. Rudin, who has served as Deputy Chairman of the Metropolitan Museum's Real Estate Council since 1995, is President of Rudin Management Company, Inc. Mr. Saul, whose involvement with the Metropolitan includes his serving on the Chairman's Council since 1985, is Chairman of the Board of Cache, Inc. Ms. Burke, a painter, as well as a former art teacher and gallery owner, has been a volunteer at the Museum since 1977 and serves also on the Chairman's Council. In announcing their elections, Mr. Houghton noted: "We are delighted to welcome these three exceptional individuals to the Board of the Metropolitan. Each has shown extraordinary dedication not only to the Museum, but to supporting the cultural vitality of New York City. The Metropolitan will benefit immensely from their varied experience and expertise, and we look forward to their continued support and enthusiasm as we face the challenges and opportunities of the next millennium."

A graduate of New York University, William C. Rudin is the third generation of the Rudin family to be involved in real estate and civic activities in New York City. Having joined the firm of Rudin Management in 1977, he was appointed President in 1993, and has been a major advocate for the resurgence of lower Manhattan by converting older commercial and residential properties into "technology-smart" buildings. The 1997 recipient of New York University's Urban Leadership Award, Mr. Rudin currently serves as a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the Alliance for Downtown New York, as Chairman of the Board for the Historic Battery Park Conservancy, as Vice Chairman of the Real Estate Board of New York, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the New York Hall of Science. His other board affiliations include: The National Realty Committee, NYU Downtown Hospital, The New York City Marathon Committee, Chemical Bank's Regional Advisory Committee, and the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association. He lives in Manhattan with his wife Ophelia and two teenage children.

Andrew M. Saul is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania. Since 1993, he has been Chairman of the Board of Cache, Inc., a major manufacturer and retailer of women's apparel, and is a general partner of Saul Partners, L.P. In addition to his involvement with the Metropolitan, where he is a member of the Chairman's Council and serves on the Trustee Merchandising Committee, Mr. Saul serves on the boards of several civic and philanthropic agencies and organizations, including Mt. Sinai-NYU Medical Center, Mt. Sinai Medical School, the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, the United Jewish Appeal Federation, The Manhattan Institute, and the Wharton School. He is also a commissioner of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Mr. Saul lives in Manhattan and Bedford, New York.

Since graduating from Wellesley College, Diane W. Burke has been a gallery assistant, art teacher, and gallery owner in and around New York City. She is also a painter, with works exhibited in galleries on both the East and West coasts. In addition to her more than 20 years of service as a volunteer at the Metropolitan, Ms. Burke and her husband James are members of the Museum's Chairman's Council. Ms. Burke currently serves as a member of the Fund for the Met's Major Gifts Committee and, with her husband, has pledged a leadership gift in support of the Museum's Center for Imaging and Photography. Her other philanthropic activities include past or present service on the boards of a variety of arts and educational organizations and institutions, including the Mercantile Library of New York City, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Zimmerli Art Museum of Rutgers University, the Wellesley College Friends of Art, the Middle East Society of Princeton, and the Russian American Cultural Foundation. Ms. Burke and her husband are residents of Manhattan.
